This café is located in the 166-year-old Iida residence, a very special, thatch-roofed traditional building so unique that it is a Japanese-registered tangible cultural property. Despite this, it serves galette, a buckwheat pancake with delicious filling origianally from France, but made here with local buckwheat flour.

Set in a deep mountain valley along a river, this restaurant’s soba noodles have a chewy texture thanks to the use of oyama bokuchi, a wild flower—and are very popular. Fresh, seasonal vegetable tempura and sasazushi (sushi on a sasa bamboo leaf) are also available.
